Low-noise linear PSUs for broadcast, studio & professional AV

Studio and AV racks are unforgiving of dirty power. Any hum, switching artefact or ground loop shows up immediately as 50 Hz buzz on a mixing console, banding on a video monitor or HF hash on a wireless mic receiver. The Mascot linear range is built specifically for this work: fully linear AC/DC with a conventional 50 Hz transformer, traditional rectifier and series-pass regulator, so the only ripple on the output is a small 100 Hz residual that's easy to filter and inaudible. The 2083 (10–24W) and 2183 (24W) plug-top series suit individual outboard, DI boxes and small wireless receivers; the 8421 (36W variable 5–15V or 12–30V), 6823 (1A linear) and 8937 (5–24V) give you bench-style adjustable output for retrofits and one-off racks. Linear or switch-mode for a studio?
Linear, if you have rack space and weight tolerance. They're the quietest electrically (no switching edges) and acoustically (no fan), which matters when the rack lives in the live room. Modern filtered switch-mode supplies are fine for digital outboard and patchbays where you can tolerate a few hundred microvolts of HF ripple, but for analogue mic preamps, vintage compressors and any 1/4" hi-Z input the Mascot linear range is the safe choice.
How do I derive 13.5V from a 24V tour rack?
The Mascot 8662 (80W) and 9261 (110W) are fully linear DC/DC converters - 24V in, regulated 13.5V out - designed to feed a 12V studio bus from a 24V rack rail without introducing any switching noise. They run warm (linear conversion is inherently lossy) but produce the cleanest possible secondary rail.
Can I daisy-chain multiple pedals from one Mascot linear supply?
Yes, provided the total current draw stays below the nameplate. The 8421 (36W) at 12V gives you 3A, which is enough for a typical 8-pedal board with conservative drains. Use a quality star-ground splitter rather than a daisy chain to avoid loop-induced hum between pedals.
