What to look for

• Match the voltage exactly. A 12V charger for a 12V battery, a 24V charger for a 24V pack. Never use a 12V charger on a 6V battery or a 24V charger on 12V — it will destroy the cells.
• Charge current (C-rate). For long-life cyclic use, target a charge current of roughly 0.1C to 0.3C (i.e. a 10Ah battery wants a 1–3A charger). Standby / float applications can run lower.
• Three-step profile. Bulk → absorption → float is essential. Single-stage 'wall-wart' chargers boil sealed batteries dry.
• Enclosure & mounting. Choose desktop chargers for bench use, panel-mount or DIN-rail for cabinet integration, and IP-rated units for marine or outdoor use.
• Medical / safety approvals. For medical, broadcast or professional deployment, look for EN 60601-1, EN 62368-1 or the relevant application-specific certification.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a car battery charger on a sealed lead acid battery?

Only if the charger has a switch or profile specifically for SLA/AGM/gel. Traditional automotive chargers push too high a voltage for sealed batteries and will vent electrolyte, permanently damaging the cells.

What is a three-step lead acid charger?

A three-step (IUoU) charger uses constant-current bulk charging to ~80% capacity, then constant-voltage absorption to top up to 100%, then a lower float voltage to hold the battery indefinitely without over-charging.

How long does a lead acid battery take to charge?

Roughly (battery Ah ÷ charger amps) × 1.2 for a fully discharged battery, so a 20Ah battery on a 4A charger takes about 6 hours to reach full capacity.

Can I leave a Mascot lead acid charger connected permanently?

Yes. All Mascot three-step chargers automatically drop to a temperature-compensated float voltage once the battery is full, so the charger can stay connected for standby, back-up or seasonal storage.

Do you supply chargers for AGM and gel batteries?

Yes. AGM and gel batteries use the same three-step SLA charge profile that our range delivers as standard, with the correct absorption and float voltages preset per model.
